Cancer is not one disease but many diseases. Did you know that contrary to public perception, lung cancer, not breast cancer, is the leading cause of cancer-related death of women in the United States - killing twice as many women as breast cancer each year? Lung cancer deaths among women have increased by 150% over the last 20 years, while the number for men increased only by 20%. With this in mind, smoking cessation and early detection are key elements in surviving lung cancer.

Five most common cancers in women:

  • Breast
  • Lung
  • Colon & rectum
  • Uterus
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (blood cancer)
Understanding common risk factors for cancers is important, as there are things you can do now to decrease your risk of cancer. From education and screening, to lifestyle choices and stress management, risk reduction is possible for every woman.
